What is Organic Puerh Tea

Organic puerh tea is made by parching and then fermenting the leaves of Camellia sinsensis, the same plant that is used for making green, oolong, and black teas.Pu-erh tea is mainly made in southwestern China and Taiwan. It contains caffeine, which stimulates the central nervous system, heart, and muscles. Pu-erh tea also contains antioxidants that might help protect the heart and blood vessels.People use pu-erh tea for improving mental alertness and thinking, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Benefits of Organic Puerh Tea

Antioxidants

Though Pu-Erh contains antioxidants, it's less of an antioxidant powerhouse than green and black tea. Antioxidants prevent damage caused by free radicals, an unstable atom which damages cells – causing illness and aging.

Lowers Cholesterol

Pu-Erh is widely known to aid in lowering cholesterol levels. A 2009 study by Experimental Gerontology shows Pu-Erh was able to help lower LDL while raising HDL. The study showed consuming Pu-Erh tea can play a significant role in reducing the risk of heart disease.

Reduces Blood Pressure

The same antioxidants which can help prevent damage caused by free radicals can help protect the heart and blood vessels.

Fights Cancer

Pu-Erh tea has been shown to prevent tumor cells' growth, and though research has been conducted on the tea, its properties are still relatively unknown.

Improves mental alertness and focus

Research conducted around Pu-Erh and its effect on the brain has shown the tea keeps the brain healthy and can improve alertness and focus while promoting brain health.

Reduces stress

Though Pu-Erh contains caffeine, the tea doesn't contain as much caffeine as other teas such as Yerba Mate or Matcha. Additionally, Pu-Erh tea's inflammatory properties aid in relaxation while reducing aches and pains.

Other uses of Organic Puerh Tea

De-stink feet

Soaking your feet in hot pu-erh tea leaves can help reduce foot odor. The tannin and TP contained in the brewed tea leaves can help kill the bacteria which are related to foot odor. So, why not soak your feet with pu-erh tea for 20 minutes per day.

Care Hair

Make a strong brewed tea and use it as a daily hair rinse for a natural way to enhance your hair's color. Tea can wash off dirt. One's hair will appear black and tender with a luster after washed by tea. Moreover, tea will do no harm to one's hair and skin since it does not contain any chemicals.

Improve breath

Gargling with strong tea can help reduce halitosis-Tea has a strong convergent effect, which could eliminate halitosis when kept in the mouth. You can benefit from this method by gargling with strong pu-erh tea.

Shine furniture

You may find the newly purchased furniture have a pungent odor smell of paint. Wiping them around with raw pu-erh tea liquid is an efficient way to fade these odors-repeat multiples times if necessary for a better result. Rumor has it that this way works better than using plain water. Add more, this method can not only apply to wooden furniture but also apply to other life utensils (such as mats or tatami) for controlling abnormal odors and dust.

Unique Functions of Organic Puerh Tea

As an Organic Fertilizer
Rather than throwing out the tea leaves of already brewed tea, you can instead add them to your garden or potted plants to help them grow and prosper. Even after more than a dozen brews, when the tea leaves have peaked and their flavor starts to fade, Pu-erh tea still has plenty of minerals and nutrients that will greatly benefit your plants. Perhaps most importantly, this also very convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of your tea leaves, while also fertilizing your plants.

As a Natural Dye
Another way to utilize your used tea leaves is as a natural pigment or dye. While many artificial dyes contain harmful chemicals, quality Pu-erh tea contains no chemicals whatsoever, and can therefore be safely used to dye cloth or any other materials a rich and natural color, as well as give them the naturally sweet aroma of Pu-erh.

As a Natural Cleaning Product
In leaf form, Pu-erh tea can be used to scrub grease or dirt off a surface. As a result, some people use it to clean their teaware, rather than using harmful, unnatural chemicals. In addition, tea water can also be effective as a cleansing agent. Some people even use it for their personal health and beauty. How To Make Organic Puerh Tea

Withering
After plucking, the tea leaves are spread out to wither, typically indoors, allowing them to lose some of their moisture content. This step helps prepare the leaves for further processing.

Rolling
The withered tea leaves are then rolled or twisted to break down their cell walls and release enzymes. Rolling also helps shape the leaves and initiates the oxidation process. In the case of raw/sheng Puerh tea, this step is followed by sun-drying, whereas ripe/shou Puerh teagoes through a slightly different process.

Drying (For Organic Puerh Tea)
Raw Puerh leaves are traditionally sun-dried to stop the oxidation process and preserve the tea's green character. The tea is then stored in a controlled environment with moderate humidity and allowed to age naturally over time. During this aging process, the tea undergoes a gradual transformation in flavor and character due to natural aging and fermentation over an extended period. The flavors thus can be more complex, often ranging from grassy and astringent to fruity and floral, depending on the age of the tea and how it's stored. Some tea enthusiasts appreciate the aging potential of raw Puerh tea, as it can develop a richer and more complex flavor profile over time. Raw Puerh is thus often considered to have a higher content of beneficial compounds, such as antioxidants, due to its longer aging process.

Fermentation (For Organic Puerh Tea)
In this case, after rolling, the tea leaves are piled together in a controlled environment with high humidity. This process involves the introduction of specific beneficial microorganisms, which ferment the tea leaves over a period of weeks to months. The tea thus undergoes an accelerated fermentation process known as "wo dui," which is controlled microbial fermentation. This process typically results in a milder, smoother, and earthier flavor profile compared to raw Puerh. Some people find ripe Puerh more palatable and easier to drink due to its reduced astringency and strong earthy taste. Ripe Puerh may be more suitable for individuals who are new to Pu-erh tea or prefer a gentler flavor.

Grade

Pu-erh can be categorized into ten grades, one to ten. The grades are determined by the time of harvest, amount of buds, size of the leaves and freshness of the leaves. The lower the number, the better the overall quality of the leaves. Premium leaves are limited in quantity. Many tea cakes feature a blend of several grades to attain a desired flavor. This blending is usually disclosed by the tea producer. In other cases, there may be less benign reasons for producers to blend several grades of tea together.

Storage condition

It is suggested that raw Pu-erh tea, particularly good quality raw Pu-erh tea, be stored to allow for slow aging and fermentation. For optimum results, the tea should be stored in conditions where: 1) humidity is dry to moderate; 2) temperature is moderate and maintained within a reasonable range; 3) sunlight is minimized; and 4) there is some, but not excessive, ventilation so that oxygen is provided for the fermentation process.
